Orthodontics
Despina Koletsi’s primary interests focus on the improvement of the quality of the disseminated information in the field of orthodontics and oral health and the integration of transparency and credibility in research findings, by generating and facilitating approaches that secure the production of reliable evidence. She has been working on methods that underscore the uncertainty of the available evidence, its limitations and its relationship with intervention effect estimates, factors which determine the trustworthiness of the research findings. Despina Koletsi is also active on primary research practices (both in- vitro and clinical) that are associated with identified risks and management of the use of biomaterials in orthodontics. Furthermore, she has been additionally actively involved in initiatives to address issues of gender disparity in academia and to raise awareness on the necessity to create equal opportunities, and to support transparency and consistency in evaluation criteria for women’s career development, through the dissemination of empirical evidence reflecting the current state of under- representation of women in both scholarly writing and visibility to peers.
