Dental Material Intolerance (Adverse Reactions) – Consultation

A wide variety of materials are used in dentistry that are integrated into the oral cavity for short or long-term use. However, some of these materials can cause intolerances or even allergy-like reactions. Patients often report a variety of complaints such as burning mouth, dry mouth, strange taste, soft tissue or skin reactions. The cause of these complaints often remains undiagnosed for years. It is therefore important for those affected to identify or rule out material intolerance.

Today, we have various diagnostic methods at our disposal, as well as the expertise of our colleagues from related fields such as materials science, dermatology, and oral surgery, to ensure a thorough assessment.

Once a material intolerance has been identified, alternative materials can usually be offered that are more biocompatible and minimize the risk of adverse reactions (e.g., in cases of suspected biocompatibility related risks).
